Applying for a credit card is a simple process. You can conduct an Internet search and fill in an application form online or alternatively look for an offer in your magazine/newspaper. Failing that you can also apply for a credit card with your bank. (However do shop around first).

Before making a credit card application we advise you take some of the following steps to enhance your credibility.

  • provide an address where you have lived for more than 3 years
  • enrol on the electoral roll
  • have a job for more than 2 years.

Bad credit credit cards

Shop around for credit cards for bad credit. Some companies, ie Captial One offer credit cards at high interest rates to people with a less than glowing track record. To avoid paying high interest rates, only spend what you can afford to pay-off in one installment.

Student credit cards

University and other higher education students can be eligible for a credit card. While not every company provides credit cards to students, those that do offer lower interest rates and other advantages such as no additional fees. Check the terms and conditions.
